Fall Fashions for Facades

October 26, 2016  |  Marie Morse, DDA Director, Lavonia
Choosing a fundraiser that you hope will be a guaranteed success can be quite a challenge! After brainstorming in a meeting about event possibilities, this led to the first and now second Lavonia Downtown Fall Fashion Show and Expo. For a small town, Lavonia is blessed with boutique shopping that includes clothing, accessories and gifts.  Since this was a fundraiser for façade grants, this meant that downtown businesses would be assisting and promoting other downtown businesses. Numerous businesses participated in the expo and nine downtown boutiques participated in the runway fashion show.

The event was held at the City of Lavonia’s Cultural Center on September 29, 2016, beginning with a reception expo and leading into a runway fashion show. The reception included heavy hors d’oeuvres and a chance to peruse and shop tables of Lavonia’s finest downtown offerings. The range of items included everything from honey bee products, jewelry, accessories, clothing, interior décor and alpaca products. Musical entertainment was provided by a local jazz entertainer.

The evening ended with a surprise marriage proposal on the runway by two of the models! She said yes, of course, and that just added more excitement to the event!

We were very pleased with this fundraiser and already have a couple of downtown facades scheduled.  We are now looking forward to the third annual Fall Fashion Show in 2017!
