PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

It is my honor to welcome you on behalf of the Georgia Downtown Association (GDA) Board of Directors. Whether you are joining us for the first time or have long stood as an advocate for Georgia’s downtowns, know that you are part of a movement dedicated to strengthening the heart of our communities.

GDA exists to connect, equip, and champion those who believe in the power of downtown. Over the past five years, our collective work has been nothing short of transformational. Of Georgia's 537 cities, 93 Georgia Main Street cities recently reported 26,300 net new full-time jobs, 3,585 net new businesses, and more than $518 million in public investment matched by an extraordinary $4.4 billion in private investment. These numbers are not just statistics—they are proof of the economic and cultural value of downtowns as engines of opportunity and renewal.

The GDA Board of Directors recognizes how far we’ve come, and how much more lies ahead. The core of what we do is supporting our members and the work you do. It is because of you, that GDA continues to grow! This year, we aim to eclipse 400 members, strengthening our reach and impact across the state.

Through our strong network of partnerships, we launched the Certified Downtown Professional (CDP) program in 2023—a groundbreaking initiative offering 14 courses and a capstone project. Already, more than 200 participants have engaged in classes, equipping leaders across Georgia with the tools to shape vibrant, resilient communities.

Our advocacy has also expanded. From addressing the House Rural Development Council on the importance of Rural Zone designations to advancing legislative priorities like historic tax credits, housing, and tourism reinvestment, GDA ensures that downtown development remains a central focus at the state level. These efforts are vital to sustaining the momentum of our cities and towns.

We continue to gather, learn, and celebrate together. Our 2025 statewide conference in Downtown Gainesville was phenomenal, and we look forward to seeing you in Rome this summer! Internally, we are working on updating our strategic plan to better serve our members and streamline operations, ensuring GDA remains a trusted resource for decades to come.

None of this progress would be possible without the dedication of our members, partners, and predecessors who laid the foundation for this work. Together, we are building stronger, more vibrant communities that enrich the lives of all Georgians. I want to give a special message to those who have joined our team through our Ambassador Program. These individuals give their time and talent selflessly to serve all of us, and the entire board is grateful for your efforts!

Thank you for being part of this legacy. I invite you to explore our resources, connect with fellow members, and join us in shaping the next chapter. Over the years, together, we have proven the power of downtowns. Let us keep moving forward, so that Georgia continues to be a leader for the entire nation!

Warm regards,

Jason Ford
